Makers Market - A Few New Cutting Boards and Hand Planes

On Saturday, my friend and I got up at 5:00 am for a little dawn patrol surf session.  After two hours and a little over 30 miles we didn’t find any surf. Eventually we ended up down the street from my house doing a little body boarding and handplaning, we ended up having a blast and our dawn patrol was save thanks to my trusty handplane! Since they were also the big seller at the Makers Market I made more!

I came up with a few new shapes this week that I’m really excited about! The ones that don’t sell they may end up in my personal quiver!

Makers Market Wednesdays

I will be back at the Makers Market this Wednesday. I have been very busy making new items for the market. There will be some new Skateboards, Handplanes, and new Cutting Boards including an new design that I’m really excited about.
I have been making skateboards since high school I all started with a bike rack my dad helped me make for my beach cruiser. I looked like an old school skateboard on the back of my bike.  I also wanted to make a really big skateboard that I could practice cross stepping and nose riding to help improve my longboarding. So my first skate was just that, about 4’ long and perfect for practicing my longboard moves on land. Surfing has always been a part of my skateboard making and influenced most of the different shapes I have made over the years, so my most recent designs are no different.
I have done different color patterns on my surfboards and really wanted to incorporate it into some of my skateboards. After several failed attempts I have finally figured out the proper technique and I am very happy with the results…

Handplanes

I made a few new Handplanes about two weeks ago and have been waiting to test them out. Finally made it down to the beach tonight and to test them out and had a blast, I haven’t been in a while and forgot how much fun it is. It is a great way to enjoy the ocean and get away from the summer surf crowds. The new wider shapes work great.

These Sweet Handplanes will be for sale at the makers market tomorrow, only $20. These handplanes are made from recycled fence boards so I can keep the cost low while the lumber lasts.

It always helps to visualize the barrel!

Makers Market Wednesdays

Well it has been a long week; I was hoping to get a few more new items for the market this week after having sold all the new items I brought last week and then some!  The highlight was selling one of my skateboards to a young Brazilian man who was so stoked I could see him skating it in his mind as he walked away.  I now have skateboards in Australia, Brazil, and the good old USA of course!
Off to Brazil!

This is my leaf cutting board I try to make it a little different each time exploring different color combinations and some minor shape  changes,  this one really fought me in several of the gluing stages but it think the end results were worth the struggle!

This next piece is partly inspired by a surfboard shaped by Nick Palandrani at The Medow  called the Noserider from Mars, which can be seen at http://themeadowinc.blogspot.com/2011/05/cityfog-noserider-from-mars.html
So I’m call it the” UFO” Cutting Board, the design also has function built into it too, the crescent shape on each end has been shaped to help whatever  you’ve been cutting to be easily directed out the center of the board in to a pan.

Hope to See you there!
